JBL Celebrates 80 Years of Sound with the L100 Classic 80 Special Edition Loudspeaker

HARMAN Luxury Audio Group As part of its global 80th Anniversary celebration, JBL announced the release of the L100 Classic 80, a limited-edition of its legendary L100 loudspeaker that honors eight decades of audio innovation, engineering excellence, and cultural impact.

First introduced in the 1970s, the original JBL L100 became one of the most recognisable loudspeakers in JBL history, synonymous with the sound of a generation and the rise of high-performance home audio. The JBL L100 Classic 80 pays tribute to that legacy while delivering the refined acoustics, materials, and build quality expected from JBL today.

“The JBL L100 is more than a loudspeaker. It’s a symbol of JBL’s role in shaping how people experience music at home,” said Jim Garrett, Senior Director, Product Strategy and Planning, HARMAN Luxury Audio. “The JBL L100 Classic 80 honors that legacy while reflecting the engineering standards and listening expectations of today. It’s a celebration of where we’ve been and how far we’ve come.”

Finished in a beautiful natural oak wood veneer and paired with a vintage-inspired brown Quadrex foam grille accented by a gold-and-black JBL logo, the JBL L100 Classic 80 is as visually striking as it is acoustically capable. The design is further distinguished by a black cone 12-inch woofer, selected specifically to complement the warm oak finish and brown grille, along with a black satin wood baffle frame and anniversary edition badging on both the front and rear. Together, these elements reinforce its status as a design statement as much as a high-performance loudspeaker.

The JBL L100 Classic 80 is a 12-inch, three-way bookshelf loudspeaker engineered for powerful, dynamic stereo playback. The system features a cast-frame 12-inch pure pulp cone woofer in a front-firing bass-reflex design, a 5.25-inch polymer-coated pure pulp cone midrange driver, and a 1-inch titanium dome tweeter mated to JBL’s acoustic lens waveguide. Carefully tuned crossover points and front-panel mid- and high-frequency level attenuators allow listeners to fine-tune the speaker’s presentation to their room and personal preferences, delivering the lively, engaging sound signature that has defined JBL for generations.

Beyond its performance and design, the JBL L100 Classic 80 is a true collector’s edition created to commemorate JBL’s 80-year legacy. Production is limited to just 800 matched pairs worldwide, each identified by an individually numbered commemorative plaque bearing the signature of principal system engineer Chris Hagen. Every pair ships as a complete system, including JS-150 speaker stands, and is delivered inside a specially crafted wooden crate, underscoring the exclusivity and craftsmanship of the anniversary edition.

Designed for dedicated listening rooms and refined living spaces alike, the JBL L100 Classic 80 offers amplifier-friendly performance with a 4-ohm impedance and dual sets of gold-plated binding posts that support bi-wire and bi-amp configurations. The result is a loudspeaker that honors JBL’s most iconic design while delivering the clarity, scale, and emotional impact expected from a modern high-performance audio system.

The JBL L100 Classic 80 is part of JBL’s year-long 80th Anniversary, celebrating the brand’s history across professional, luxury, and consumer audio, and reinforcing JBL’s enduring role as a steward of sound for artists, engineers, and music lovers worldwide.
